February Flavors

The Shortest Month, The Longest Feelings

February is technically the shortest month of the year—but somehow, it can feel like the most trying. We’re deep in winter. The weather can’t quite make up its mind. And when Punxsutawney Phil pops up and announces six more weeks of winter, it can feel like a collective sigh ripples through all of us.

This is the point in the season where energy dips, patience thins, and we start craving something more than just waiting it out.

So instead, we dig in. We lean into the things that bring us joy. For us, that joy almost always starts in the kitchen. Recipes that warm you from the inside out. People to share those recipes with. Food wrapped up as a love letter, passed across the table.

February is the perfect month to slow down and be intentional—to decorate the table just because, to light the candles on a Tuesday night, to pull out the good bowls for soup. It’s a month that practically begs us to tell people how much we love them. And if your love language is anything like mine, feeding people is at the very top of that list.

This month, our kitchen is full of beautiful, hearty soups—deeply comforting, gently spiced, the kind that make you exhale when you take the first bite. We’re also spending time with whole grain bread making—rustic loaves, deeply nourishing, slow-fermented, and meant to be torn, shared, and slathered with our signature honey butter. There’s something grounding about bread in winter: hands in dough, time doing its thing, warmth filling the room.

We’re leaning into one of our favorite winter salads as well:

shaved Brussels sprouts and peppery arugula, pickled red onion, vibrant purple carrots, diced candied pecans for sweetness and crunch, all brought together with a warm pomegranate vinaigrette that feels like sunshine in February.

And because no gathering feels complete without something beautiful to sip, we’re paying just as much attention to what’s in the glass. We are absolute suckers for a beautiful sangria, so this month we’re fully embracing our vanilla berry sangria. We offer it both as a classic cocktail and as a thoughtfully crafted mocktail—so everyone at the table can raise a glass.

Made with our house-made vanilla simple syrup and finished with candied berries, it’s subtle, gently tangy, and effortlessly elegant. It’s the kind of drink that doesn’t overpower the moment—it enhances it. A perfect way to pause, clink glasses, and say cheers to whatever you’re celebrating this month.

And then there’s dessert—where we let things brighten up just a little more. This month’s sweets are a thoughtful blend of citrus and chocolate, or citrus paired with tangy, floral notes. Combinations that are slightly unexpected, a little complex, and incredibly alive. They cut through the heaviness of winter and remind us that brightness is still very much within reach.

Beyond the food, we’re lingering over the details—the ones that matter most right now. Fresh flowers tucked into quiet corners. Meaningful moments. Handwritten cards waiting at place settings, reminding people they are seen, welcomed, and cared for.

February doesn’t need to be rushed through.

It doesn’t need to be endured.

It can be a month of nourishment—of bodies, hearts, and relationships. A reminder that even in the coldest stretch of the year, joy can still be built, one recipe, one loaf of bread, one beautifully set table—and one shared toast at a time.
